“He’s just too sharp, too strong, he doesn’t even allow opponents breath, Arteta has turned him into a very dangerous player”- Skysport pundit was full of praise for fast and agile Arsenal superstar who has massively improved since Mikel Arteta was hired- Not Saka, Not Martinelli and not Saliba

Skysport commentator praised Arsenal’s swift and agile superstar, who has developed dramatically since Mikel Arteta was appointed.

Although many players have improved at Arsenal since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, one in particular jumps out: Reiss Nelson.

The Hale End academy graduate was outstanding off the bench for Arsenal against PSV Eindhoven last night.

And, despite not having many opportunities at first, Nelson has had an influence on all of the games in which he has been inserted.

Although Nelson has always been regarded as a diamond of the academy, it appeared for a long time that he would leave the club.

The England under-21 international went on loan to TSG Hoffenheim and Feyernoord before returning to the squad with little change.

However, it became evident last season that Mikel Arteta did believe Nelson could make a difference for Arsenal.

A player who appeared to be on the outskirts of the matchday squad was now trusted to save points for the Gunners.

Although Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli have improved significantly, few have witnessed such a shift in trajectory as Nelson.

Nelson has developed the most at Arsenal under Arteta.
Nelson’s biggest challenge now will be finding a method to start games.

Yes, Nelson has looked lively and purposeful late in the game against tired opposition, but he still needs to prove his worth from the start.

And to do so, the 23-year-old must unseat either Bukayo Saka, Martinelli, or Leandro Trossard.

You can see how large the assignment is.

Of course, the ‘energetic’ Nelson will be looking to gain a starting spot for Arteta in Arsenal’s cup games this season.

Arteta’s squad players should have plenty of chances in both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.

And if last night’s cameo is any indication, Nelson is ready to go.

Nelson’s long-term Arsenal career may still be difficult to create, but he has developed more than anyone in recent years.
