“He’s just an overhyped player, nothing really special about him, i don’t rate him much”- Chelsea great Didier Drogba claims Arsenal’s 22-year-old sensation is nothing remarkable.
Didier Drogba, a Chelsea star, has made some surprising remarks regarding Arsenal defender William Saliba.
Saliba is regarded as one of Arsenal’s most important players these days, having put in outstanding performances since the start of last season.
Drogba, on the other hand, is simply not convinced.
The former Ivorian international told ‘Get French Football News’ in an exclusive interview that Saliba was not above average.
“Then there’s the one at Arsenal [Saliba] – he hasn’t yet had the game time to adapt to that necessary association,” he added.
“I don’t think his personal qualities are above average.”
“He’s very, very good, but not extraordinary.”
Drogba believed Saliba was performing well but was nothing remarkable for Arsenal.
“As a result, before absorbing the international level, he must acclimate to those associations.”
“As things stand I don’t know how to associate him with [Ibrahima] Konate or with [Dayot] Upamecano so that he can excel and develop all the talent that he has in him.”
Desailly believes Saliba still needs to improve at Arsenal before heading to France.
To put these remarks in context, keep in mind that Saliba hasn’t been as imperious for his country as he has been for his club.
Although the Arsenal defender has been faultless, some of his France performances have been criticized.
And so far, Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano have done better for their country.
However, this does not mean that these remarks will come as a surprise.
Saliba is having another fantastic season for Arsenal and was greatly missed when he was rested against West Ham United last night.
Along with Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice, the defender is now regarded as one of Arsenal’s greatest.
And, while Desailly isn’t completely sure of Saliba, those reservations don’t exist at Arsenal.
Kai Havertz is one player who is still being chastised.
Despite Arsenal’s overall bad performance last night, Havertz has been singled out for much of the blame.
