Charles Watts believes Thomas Partey will not start for Arsenal against Chelsea in the Premier League opener this weekend.
Arsenal fans were alarmed when Thomas Partey was substituted at halftime during Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Mexico.
However, Arsenal expert Charles Watts stated that ‘panic is past’ because everything was pre-planned by Ghana coach Chris Hughton, as he revealed on his own YouTube channel.
Fans despise the international break for a reason. On the one hand, it halts domestic football, but on the other, it puts their players at risk of injury and forces them to return home late.
In Thomas Partey’s case, he will be in action for Ghana against the USA on Wednesday night in Nashville, which means a late flight back to London.
Mikel Arteta’s side head to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening to face Chelsea, and Watts does not expect the £200,000-a-week player to play (Spotrac).
Update on Thomas Partey’s injury
“My understanding of Thomas Partey’s early withdrawal from Ghana’s game against Mexico at half-time was that it was a pre-determined thing,” Watts added.
“They were just trying to manage his minutes after being out for so long with injury,” Chris Hughton said to the press after the game.
“Panic is over. There is no need to be concerned. I wouldn’t be surprised if Thomas Partey has a similar experience when they face the USA on Wednesday night in Nashville. I don’t think Thomas Partey can do the full 90 minutes. It may be another 45-minute event for him, which is prudent and reasonable. These are not qualifications, but rather friendly matches.
