“I asked him to review it cautiously but he said………”, – David Raya reveal shocking referee reply to VAR decision

On Saturday evening, Gordon scored the only goal of the game as the Magpies defeated Mikel Arteta’s team 1-0 at St James’ Park.

However, there was some debate as to whether the ball went out of play, Joelinton fouled Gabriel, or Gordon was offside before the ball hit the back of the net.

VAR declared that the goal stood, although Raya felt that it should have been ruled out on all three counts.

The Spaniard claims that the loss has left the Arsenal players dissatisfied and upset, with the Gunners now third and three points behind champions Manchester City.

‘We’re all frustrated,’ he admitted. ‘From my perspective, I saw the ball go out of play. I believe that was a foul on Gabriel since he [Joelinton] pushed him on the back, but the verdict was not a foul. That wasn’t supposed to happen, in my opinion. And that was, in my judgment, offside. We are quite disappointed.

‘We competed really well away from home today. It’s a difficult area to visit. We deserved more than a defeat for the way we played. It was pretty even, so a draw would have been more fair. Everyone in the locker room is clearly upset and angry.’

Raya stated that Arteta had little to say to his players following the dismal defeat, but they communicated their concerns with how it occurred.

‘He only had a few words to say, he said he was proud of how we competed but he is frustrated with the decision,’ said his boss’s goalie.
