“I was totally blown away, I never expected them to look just like Real Madrid especially with…” Sergio Ramos sends surprising message to Arsenal after losing at home in the UEFA Champions League
According to Sergio Ramos, Arsenal proved they are on the same level as Real Madrid by defeating Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Arsenal won 2-1 in Spain courtesy to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Martinelli beat the goalie right before halftime to put Mikel Arteta’s team ahead, and Jesus doubled their lead with a magnificent looping strike into the top corner.
Arsenal has risen to the top of Group B following their Champions League victory over Sevilla. The Gunners won 2-1 over the La Liga team on Tuesday evening in Spain.
Gabriel Jesus’s magic set his compatriot Gabriel Martinelli to score on the stroke of halftime at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. Jesus extended Arsenal’s advantage in the second half with a superb, looping goal of his own – albeit he later limped off after holding his hamstring minutes earlier.
On the hour, a tremendous Nemanja Gudelj header cut the deficit to one, but Arteta’s team held on to win. As a result, Arsenal now leads the group with six points, while Lens is second with five.
After finishing second in the Premier League last season, Arsenal is participating in the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17.
They may lack experience in Europe’s elite club tournament, but Ramos believes they have the quality to put any team to the test. He likened them to Real Madrid, which drew 1-1 with Sevilla over the weekend.
“In one against one we had chances to hurt them, knowing that Arsenal are a team that wants to play football, that leaves a lot of space on the line to take advantage of those losses that we sometimes found, but we did not capitalise well enough,” he went on to say.
“I believe that in the end, we played face to face against both Real Madrid and Arsenal.” It is tough not to see a difference before we played the teams that, in my opinion, are presently the greatest in Europe.
And it’s not simple to play face to face with this type of squad, knowing that they create from the back and want to generate by playing football from the goalkeeper’s kick.”
Having Bukayo Saka and Martinelli running at you for 90 minutes also doesn’t help, but perhaps we can make things right at the Emirates.
