‘We went for Him first, but Arteta is trying to play a smart game here’: Man City boss Pep Guardiola confessed £87m Bundesliga striker now want to join Arsenal over Man City

Arsenal is one of the clubs interested in Florian Wirtz, but Bayer Leverkusen wants £87 million for their offensive midfielder.

According to a report in Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 20-year-old.

In the early stages of the season, Florian Wirtz has been electric. He is undoubtedly living up to his manager’s comparison of him to Lionel Messi.

Wirtz has five goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season. And he scored a spectacular goal over the weekend to keep Leverkusen atop the Bundesliga table.

According to writer Dean Jones of Ranks FC, Newcastle is one among the teams most interested in getting Wirtz to the Premier League. However, Mundo Deportivo reports that Arsenal is now in the running.

However, Leverkusen will not allow him leave on the cheap. In reality, they want up to €100 million and would not take anything less than £70 million.

The news may put the Gunners off making a deal.

Arsenal supporters may have mixed views about pursuing Wirtz. He is unquestionably a’special’ talent with a high ceiling.

He is not, however, a natural striker. And that looks to be Mikel Arteta’s aim as they attempt to take the last step and challenge for the Premier League championship.

If Wirtz was available for less, it would be a no-brainer for a club like Arsenal, who is known for nurturing young talent.

However, they have previously acquired and spent money on players such as Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira in recent years.
