“His teammates and the fans did not believe in him but i was the only one that kept faith in and last night, he proved them wrong”- Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta was blown away by how ‘outstanding’ £12M Arsenal was vs Burnley yesterday
Mikel Arteta was completely overwhelmed by a ‘fantastic’ £12 million Arsenal player against Burnley yesterday.
Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on Arsenal midfielder Jorginho following a much-needed win over Burnley yesterday.
After the game, Arteta spoke with beIN SPORTS about an injury concern that Jorginho suffered in the second half for Arsenal.
While providing an update on the Italian’s condition, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger couldn’t help but appreciate the role he was now playing.
“Well, I haven’t checked him, but for him to come off obviously, it was certain cuts he had and they couldn’t stitch it there [on the pitch],” Arteta explained.
“The way he performed and competed today was outstanding.” He’s a crucial player for me.”
Of course, Jorginho’s importance in this team has expanded significantly since Thomas Partey’s current injury.
The 31-year-old, who joined for £12 million almost a year ago, has played a critical role at times and was excellent again against Burnley yesterday.
Jorginho kept the game moving at the base of midfield and did win some crucial duels around the half-way line to keep Arsenal in the game.
Jorginho is now seen as an important member of Arteta’s Arsenal squad, according to Arteta.
Many people believe that Arsenal would be better suited returning Declan Rice to the pivot of their midfield right now.
Rice was once again used in a more advanced position and performed admirably against Burnley.
Moreover, while Arsenal will face tougher tests to come, it bodes well that Jorginho is playing consistently well enough for Arteta to use Rice elsewhere.
The only downside for The Gunners yesterday was Fabio Vieira’s late red card.
Some have now strongly criticized Vieira for his unwarranted challenge.
And maybe the most frustrating aspect is the accumulation of Arsenal’s ailments.
Although he did not play yesterday, many thought Fabio Vieira may profit from some valuable minutes as Martin Odegaard gradually returned.
Vieira, on the other hand, will be on the sidelines for the next three games.
