“That’s going to be his downfall, i do want to win and I haven’t won much recently” Aaron Ramsdale breaks silence on losing Arsenal spot to David Raya with honest admission as shot stoppers battle for No 1 spot against Chelsea

Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal made a self-deprecating joke about losing his starting spot to David Raya this season.

In recent weeks, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has made a joke about losing his starting job to David Raya. The England international had been the Gunners’ starting goalkeeper for the last two years, succeeding Bernd Leno after joining from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021.

However, Ramsdale was pushed out of Mikel Arteta’s starting lineup during his side’s 1-0 win over Everton last month, with summer signing Raya taking over as the Spaniard’s starting shot-stopper subsequently. Now, the 25-year-old has broken his silence on the subject, joking in a video with fellow England teammates that he hasn’t won much recently.

In a game of Carrot in a Box, Ramsdale faced Arsenal attacker Eddie Nketiah. Nketiah told Channel 4 about the amusing matchup: “I think that’s going to be his downfall, to be honest, he wants to win too much.”

“I do want to win,” Ramsdale replied. “I haven’t won much recently.”

The two teammates then burst out laughing, with the great shot-stopper seemingly referring to losing his spot to Raya. It remains to be seen whether the Brentford loanee will retain his starting berth against Chelsea this Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Last time out, the Spaniard preserved a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over reigning Premier League winners Manchester City, albeit he was chastised for his distribution against Pep Guardiola’s men.

“I was worried about the goalkeeper in the first half – he averted a crisis there,” he stated on the Gary Neville Podcasts.

“If he concedes a goal in the first half due to one of those anxious moments, you have seen it happen.” He had to get through the game, which he did, or else it could have been a tremendous problem.”
