“He surprised me so much against Sevilla in the UCL and I’m seriously looking forward to watching him again this weekend against Burnley”- Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand lavished admiration on the ‘underrated’ Arsenal’s £110k-per-week star performed something no Manchester United player can do- Neither Saka, Mot Martinelli, nor Trossard.
Rio Ferdinand claims that the Arsenal star has done something that’very few can’ accomplish effectively.
Rio Ferdinand praised Arsenal midfielder Jorginho for his performance in the Gunners’ opening game against Sevilla on Wednesday night.
When it comes to defense-splitting passes, the pundit believes there aren’t many players who can compete with the Arsenal veteran.
Arsenal, anxious to get back to winning ways and earn a second win against Sevilla this season, took control of their Champions League match from the start.
Jorginho absolutely broke the opposition defense open in the 29th minute with a spectacular through-ball for Bukayo Saka.
The forward then put the ball on a platter for Leandro Trossard to slide home and put the Gunners ahead.
‘That goal is entirely about Jorginho’s pass.’
Ferdinand was quick to praise Jorginho for his through-ball, which took out no fewer than six Sevilla players en route to the goal.
“There are very few who can execute” the kind of ball that Jorginho fashioned for the goal, Ferdinand stated at halftime on TNT Sports.
Meanwhile, Matthew Upson told BBC Sport on Radio 5 Live, “That goal really is about that pass from Jorginho to unlock the Sevilla defense.”
In the 64th minute, Gabriel Martinelli sent the ball through for Saka to cut inside, beat his marker, and curl home.
Jorginho put up a strong and clean performance, with his fantastic assist for the opener being the icing on the cake.
The Arsenal ace, who earns £110,000 a week (Salarysport), may continue to divide opinion at the Emirates, but it is in these types of games where he can truly shine.
Jorginho has been an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad. In addition to his talent, the Italy international adds a wealth of experience and leadership to a youthful Gunners squad.
